Abstract

This editorial presents an overview of European language policy and foreign language education in Europe as well as a special focus on two European countries differing very much in multilingualism and language competences: the United Kingdom and Luxembourg. A very brief summary of research discourses and language policy, especially of AILA, leads to a short introduction into the contributions of this volume.
