Zusammenfassung
Das Weltsozialforum (WSF) ist das Gipfeltreffen globalisierungskritischer Bewegungen, die gegen die Auswirkungen des globalen Neoliberalismus und anderer Ausbeutungsverhältnisse protestieren. Dieser Artikel untersucht die Relationen des WSF zu (anderen) transnationalen Institutionen und fragt, ob das WSF selbst als eine transnationale Institution der Globalisierungskritik betrachtet werden kann. Basierend auf den empirischen Einsichten zweier abgeschlossener Dissertationen zum WSF, kommen wir zu dem Schluss, dass die seit Beginn andauernde Auseinandersetzung um die eigenen praktizierten Normen und Werte auf den Veranstaltungen als auch im Organisationsprozess selbst als eine Form institutionalisierten Lernprozesses verstanden werden kann, der das WSF als Institution der Globalisierungskritik charakterisiert.
Abstract
The World Social Forum (WSF) brings together various alter-globalization movements, which protest against the consequences of global neoliberalism and other forms of exploitation. This article analyzes the intersections between the WSF and transnational institutions. We ask whether the WSF itself can be characterized as a transnational institution of globalization critique. Based on the empirical insights of two doctoral theses on the WSF, we conclude that the ongoing contestation over norms and values of the WSF during events as well as within the organizational process constitutes an institutional learning process, which renders the WSF an institution of globalization critique.
