Abstract

The article locates sustainability and climate protection briefly within its historic contexts and puts emphasis on the reciprocity of their emergence. This includes both a reconstruction of their genesis and a factual as well as normative justification of this reciprocity. In doing so, it constitutes sustainability and climate protection as two sides of the same coin. By putting process center stage, significant global cooperation and learning gains over time become visible, on the one hand. On the other, it underlines a shared responsibility of all who work towards the success of complex sustainability transformations.
