Zusammenfassung
Vor zwanzig Jahren, als das Weltsozialforum zum ersten Mal in Porto Alegre in Brasilien stattfand, war es eine Veranstaltung, die sich für eine Globalisierung ‚von unten‘ einsetzte. Was hat sich seit dem ersten Weltsozialforum bis hin zur pandemiebedingt erstmalig rein virtuellen, fünfzehnten Ausgabe des Weltsozialforum des Jahres 2021 verändert? Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage nahm der Autor an verschiedenen Aktivitäten während der Veranstaltungstage im Januar 2021 teil, analysierte Dokumente und führte Gespräche mit langjährigen Weltsozialforumsaktivist*innen. Die Antwort lautet: Verändert hat sich vieles, aber (immer noch) nicht der Grundansatz des Weltsozialforums.
Abstract
Twenty years ago, when the World Social Forum was first held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, it was an event that stood up for globalisation ‘from below’. What has changed since the first World Social Forum up to the fifteenth edition of the World Social Forum in 2021, which is purely virtual for the first time due to the pandemic? To answer this question, the author participated in various activities during the event days in January 2021, analysed documents and held conversations with long-time World Social Forum activists. The answer is: many things have changed, but (still) not the basic approach of the World Social Forum.
