Abstract
Ilse Aichinger’s early reception in France was very sparse although a French translation of Die größere Hoffnung by Marielore Rouveyre was published as early as 1956 by Gallimard. A new French translation by Uta Müller and Denis Denjean was published by Verdier as recently as 2007 in a series dedicated to Austrian and German literature. This translation tries to stay closer to the original and contains an epilogue by Jean-Yves Masson, a specialist for Austrian and comparative literature. In the same year Verdier published a translation of Aichinger’s collected short-stories. These translations may be signs of a relaunch of Aichinger’s reception in France.
