Abstract

This article provides an overview of the spectrum of political parties in Russia. The focus is on the names and designations of the parties, the adjectives derived from them and the names used for the party members. It is noticeable that these names can have a positive or negative connotation and are used in the political debate. Many of these coinages have not found their way into existing reference works yet. There are remarkable grammatical novelties such as the declination of abbreviations, orthographic doublets and the use of some of these forms in word building. The article also discusses frequent cases of homonymy which hamper text comprehension.
