Der Körper in der Askese bei Evagrios Pontikos und Philoxenos von Mabbug

Abstract

Im Vergleich der Schriften zweier spätantiker christlicher Autoren werden in diesem Beitrag ihre Vorstellungen von Askese und der Rolle, die der Körper in der asketischen Übung spielt, kontrastierend gegenübergestellt. Ihre Ansichten zu Eschatologie und Anthropologie sowie zu den Wegen, die zur Erlangung eines , Wissens von Gott‘ durch Praxis führen, haben maßgeblichen Einfluss auf das in den Texten transportierte Körperwissen und asketische Übungswissen. Evagrios Pontikos schreibt im 4. Jahrhundert in der ägyptischen Wüste aus eigener asketischer Erfahrung heraus und macht mithin ein selbst erlangtes Übungswissen als schriftliches Anleitungswissen zugänglich. Bei Philoxenos von Mabbug, der im 5. Jahrhundert in Syrien lebt, ist die Annahme, dass das von ihm verschriftlichte Wissen auf eigener Übung beruht, nicht gesichert.
