We all know George Vandervoort as a uniquely competent, active and somehow omnipresent expert in our field. George has not only written countless publications and standard works, as well as solved spectacular cases of damage from nuclear and oil disasters to the World Trade Center in New York. He has been an equally enthusiastic teacher of metallography for 50 years (!) – in the truest sense of the word, worldwide. It is therefore not surprising that he has received all the relevant awards of our discipline. Can there ever be anything surprising? In George Vandervoort’s case, yes: take a look at the picture on page 674! Congratulations, dear George, on the unique IAOTP award as Top Consultant of the Decade – we are proud to have you in our ranks! In addition, we again offer you exciting technical articles in this issue – among others on archaeometallurgy of the Bronze Age and on additively manufactured hard magnets.

wir alle kennen George Vandervoort als einen einzigartig kompetenten und umtriebigen sowie irgendwie überall präsenten Experten unseres Faches. George hat nicht nur unzählige Publikationen und Standardwerke geschrieben sowie spektakuläre Schadensfälle mit aufgeklärt von Nuklear- und Ölkatastrophen bis zum Worldtrade Center in New York. Er ist seit 50 Jahren (!) ein ebenso begeisterter Lehrer der Metallographie – und das im wahrsten Sinne weltweit.
