Abstract

Wire-mesh sensors allow for high spatial and temporal resolution investigation of multiphase flows and may therefore be employed to study many flow problems involving gases and liquids. In this article a novel capacitance wire-mesh sensor is described, which is based on the measurement of electrical permittivity (capacitance). Beside the description of the measurement principle, corresponding electronics and data analysis, an example of practical use of the sensor is presented. The wire-mesh sensor was applied to investigate a two-phase oil-gas pipe flow where the flow regimes were visualized and some important quantitative flow parameters were extracted from the measured raw data.
