Protective Role of Pterocarpus marsupium in Diabetes-Induced Hyperlipidemic Condition

  • Rajnish Gupta and R. S. Gupta

Pterocarpus marsupium (Family: Leguminoceae) is widely used in 'Ayurveda' as 'Rasayana' for management of various metabolic disorders including hyperlipidemia. Treatment of diabetic rats with methanol extracts of P. marsupium aerial part (PMMtE) for 14 days resulted significant alterations towards normalcy in serum glucose, lipid profile and tissue parameters (cholesterol and glycogen both in liver and heart). In conclusion, our present results suggest hypolipidemic effect of P. marsupium in hyperglycemic condition.
