Abstract
Design and evaluation of flexible item-related manufacturing systems for the mass production of high-performance products. When relying on tried-and-tested approaches to the planning of changeable production systems for mass production, planners face a classical dilemma: unit cost prices rise with increasing flexibility. Making production systems scalable can be one way out. This approach would provide the required flexibility and help implement capacities in real time and demand-optimized. In addition to the methodical approach to design and layout, a second focus is on a dynamic monetary evaluation of changeable production systems on a total-life-cycle basis. Within the context of the Digital Factory, this paper introduces a tool for manufacturing planners that helps compare alternate rough concepts for manufacturing systems (in early planning phases), and decide on a target-oriented direction under current determining conditions. An example will illustrate the actual use of the tool.
