Abstract
Basic principles for drilling. A new material named Glare was developed for application in aircraft bodies and is used for the first time as a material for aircraft structure elements of the new macro body aircraft Airbus A380 because of its excellent properties concerning fatigue. In line of fundamental examinations the feed force and the cutting torque during the drilling process of Glare were analyzed. A theoretical analysis shows the parameters which influence the cutting force. The results of the analytical examination were checked at different cutting parameters and tool geometries. The periodical process of the cutting torque and the feed force was confirmed. Furthermore, the quality of the manufactured hole and the tool wear were registered.
