Abstract
A comprehensive and reproducible evaluation of iron ores requires structured analytical methods. Therefore, a methodology has been developed which serves to evaluate the chemical and morphological characteristics. Seven different iron ores were examined with regard to their specific properties. For the standardized methodology, the following analytical methods have been applied: sieve analysis, chemical analysis, porosity measurement, reflected light and transmitted light microscopy. The developed method is suitable for a general mineralogical/petrographic characterization of all common raw or reduced iron ores and may also be applied with other ores.
