Abstract

Die Veränderung vom reinen Konsumenten-Web der ersten Generation zum „Mitmach”-Web der zweiten Generation bringt neue Dienste hervor mit Möglichkeiten, aber auch Risiken. Verschiedene Dienste werden vorgestellt und ein Modell zur Erklärung des aktiven Nutzerverhaltens im Web 2.0 wird skizziert. Abstract As the web changes from the purely consumption-oriented first generation offering to its participation-focused second generation, new services are launched, providing new possibilities, but also new risks. Different services are presented, and a model is outlined to explain the active user behavior in Web 2.0.

Abstract

Neben der Verbesserung der Kommunikation durch Social Software haben Unternehmen große Hoffnungen, mittels neuer Web 2.0-Anwendungen die wissensbasierte Zusammenarbeit in und zwischen Gruppen vereinfachen und verbessern zu können. Der grandiose Erfolg von in freier und freiwilliger Zusammenarbeit erstellten Wissensplattformen im Web beflügelt die Phantasie von Unternehmen: Nicht nur das in den Köpfen der Mitarbeiter vorhandene Wissen erhofft man z.B. mit unternehmensinternen Wikis heben zu können, sondern mehr noch, dass die Mitarbeiter darüber in einen kollaborativen Wissensaustausch einsteigen und beispielsweise die Texte anderer verbessern, korrigieren, erweitern, neue Sichtweisen einbringen, so dass damit letztlich neues Wissen und neue Ideen generiert werden – zum Nutzen von Unternehmen und Mitarbeiter. Der nachfolgende Beitrag konzentriert sich in der Diskussion auf den unternehmensinternen Einsatz von Social Software. Der Einsatz von Social Software zur Kooperation und Kollaboration zwischen Unternehmen wird nur beiläufig gestreift. Abstract Besides improving communication, companies hope to be able to simplify and improve knowledge-based team-work within and among groups using new Web 2.0 applications. The striking success of knowledge platforms in the web, which were created in free and voluntary cooperation, inspires the companies' imagination: they not only hope to improve the knowledge already at hand, for example by means of corporate wikis, but also that their employees will thus find the way into a collaborative knowledge exchange. They could for example modify, correct and edit other employees' texts, introduce new view points and eventually generate new knowledge and new ideas therewith – for the benefit for the com-pany as well as its employees. The following article focuses on the discussion about the in-company use of social software. The use of social software in interfirm cooperation and collaboration is touched on only incidentally.

Abstract

Community-Portale bieten immer häufiger kollaborative Tagging-Systeme zur zusätzlichen Auszeichnung ihrer Informationen an. Damit etabliert sich gerade ein neues Interface-Element, das das Potenzial zu einem erweiterten Umgang mit den Daten der gesamten digitalen Welt hat. Dieser Artikel beschäftigt sich mit den interaktiven Aspekten des Taggings, sowie mit der semantischen Ebene in Abgrenzung zum etablierten Wissensbegriff. Abstract Tagging is a very popular element on social community websites that fosters user participation and their contributions to add meaning to the data. It has the potential to become a new element to interact with data in the digital world in general. This paper discusses the interactive properties of tagging systems, and the semantics of tagging with respect to the well established notion of knowledge.

Abstract

Mashups sind Web-basierte Anwendungen die Inhalte und Funktionalitäten von unterschiedlichen Onlinequellen über öffentlich verfügbare Schnittstellen verbinden (z.B. API, RSS). Mashup-Technologien versetzen Benutzer in die Lage, selbst neue Webseiten zu erstellen, die Daten und Dienste von unterschiedlichen Anbietern kombinieren. Die Webseite Programmable Web weist hin auf mehr als 800 solcher Anwendungen. Trotz der grossen Dynamik der “Mashup Bewegung”, gibt es bislang kaum Arbeiten, welche die strukturellen Eigenschaften, Designdimensionen und sozio-technischen Implikationen von Mashups analysieren. In diesem Beitrag wird ein konzeptuelles Rahmenwerk zur Analyse und Evaluierung von Mashups vorgeschlagen und in einer explorativen Studie angewandt. Die Studienergebnisse identifi-zieren die aktuellen Trends und ein dominantes Design-Modell erfolgreicher Mashups sowie kritische Aspekte, Limitationen und Chancen zukünftiger Entwicklung. Abstract Mashups are web applications combining content and functionality from different online sources via publicly available interfaces (e.g. API, RSS). This allows end-users to create new websites that dynamically combine services of existing providers. The website Programmable Web lists almost 800 such applications. Still, little work has analyzed their structural properties, design dimensions and socio-technical implications. In this paper we propose and apply a specific conceptual framework for analyzing and evaluating mashups. The results of an exploratory study identify current trends and a dominant design model of successful mashups as well as critical aspects, limitations and chances for future development.

Abstract

Im August 2006 wurde das Innovationsprogramm Web 2.0 gestartet, das bis Ende 2007 aus Mitteln des Medienimpulsprogramms des Staatsministeriums Baden-Württemberg unterstützt wird. Ziel ist es, die technischen, wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Potenziale in Baden-Württemberg auszuschöpfen und die Entwicklung innovativer Projekte im Land zu forcieren. Mit einer Veranstaltungsreihe in sieben baden-württembergischen Städten informierte die MFG Baden-Württemberg in der ersten Phase über die Möglichkeiten des Web 2.0 und präsentierte erfolgreiche Beispiele. Die vier Arbeitskreise Geschäftsmodelle, Leben online, Marketing & PR und Wissensmanagement analysieren in regelmäßigen Treffen verschiedene Aspekte des Web 2.0 und treiben konkrete Projekte voran. Langfristiges Ziel des Programms ist es, durch innovative Anwendungen und Geschäftsmodelle im Bereich Web 2.0 neue Dienstleistungen und Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen. Abstract The Innovations Programme Web 2.0 was launched in August 2006 which is funded by the Media Impulse Programme of the State Ministery of Baden-Wuerttemberg until the end of 2007. Goal is to develop technical, economical and social projects in Baden-Wuerttemberg. The MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg offered a series of talks and presentations on possibilities of Web 2.0 and successfull examples in seven cities in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Four working groups Business Models, Living Online, Marketing & PR and Knowledge Management analyse in regular meetings different aspects of Web 2.0. Overall goal of the programme is to create new services and new jobs through innovative applications and business models in the area of Web 2.0.

Abstract

Modellbasierte Software-Entwicklung wie die Model Driven Architecture der OMG eignet sich für Anwendungssysteme, bei denen die fachliche Essenz von den technischen Details zu trennen und dabei ein hoher Grad an Automatisierung erwünscht ist, denn die Vermischung von fachlichen Aspekten (Anwendersicht) mit den implementationsspezifischen Details (Entwicklersicht) erschwert (nicht nur) bei Web 2.0 die Wartbarkeit, Wiederverwendbarkeit und Portabilität der Software. Modellbasierte Software-Entwicklung ermöglicht den Austausch von Technologien bzw. Plattformen – unter Beibehaltung der fachlichen Modelle. Dieser Beitrag zeigt an einem einfachen Beispiel, wie aus einer „alten” Web-Anwendung eine Software unter Verwendung von AJAX für das Web 2.0 entstehen kann, ohne dass eine komplette Neuentwicklung stattfindet. Abstract Model based software development, e.g. OMG's Model Driven Architecture, is enabling the separation of a high level application design from the implementation making it possible to generate most of the code. The mixture of the application design with implementation-specific details has a negative influence on maintainability, reusability and portability of the software. This is true not only for Web 2.0 applications. Model based approaches make it possible to exchange technologies and/or platforms while maintaining (and reusing) the models of the “business world”, i.e. the high level design. This contribution shows, by a simple example, how an "old" web application can be re-engineered using AJAX, without the necessity for a complete new development cycle.

Abstract

Mit dem Internet Geld zu verdienen ist, ein Thema seit dessen Erfindung. In der ersten Welle war vor allem die Anbindung von Haushalten an die teure Infrastruktur ein schnell wachsender Markt. Weitere Modelle wurden schnell durch Handel, Werbung und Kommunikation adaptiert. Doch nach dem Scheitern der „New Economy” war die Luft erst einmal draußen und die Investitionsbereitschaft sank auf ein Minimalmaß. Nun soll mit neu gemischten Karten und einer gänzlichen neuen Philosophie das Internet nochmals erobert werden. Welche Chancen „Web2.0” hat und was seine Rolle dabei sein kann soll im Folgenden erörtert werden. Abstract Making money with the internet is one of the key challenges since its invention. With the first wave connecting households was a major source for revenues; quickly followed by models in the areas commerce, advertising and communication. But after the new economy failed reaching and exceeding hopes and expectations the excitement rapidly disappeared and the motivation to invest in the internet was minimal. Today the game and the philosophy have changed and the internet is about to be conquered again. The chances and the role of the so called “Web2.0” in this new dynamic will be analyzed in the following article.

Abstract

Die Quantität, Dimensionalität und Multimedialität heutiger Informationsräume stellt bei der Suche, Exploration und Navigation große Anforderungen an die Gestaltung der Mensch-Computer Interaktion. Zoomable User Interfaces (ZUIs) bieten dabei neue Möglichkeiten für ein benutzergerechteres Design. Am Beispiel von ZUI Konzepten für die Navigation und Suche in digitalen Welten sollen neue Wege des Interaktionsdesigns aufgezeigt werden. Abstract Today's complex information spaces have enormous requirements concerning the human computer interface design. The quantity, multidimensionality and multimedia-support of information spaces make it necessary to think about new ways for search, exploration and navigation. Zoomable User Interfaces (ZUIs) provide new possibilities for a usable application design. With our ZUI design studies we present some scalable interaction concepts for navigation and search, well suited for conventional and web 2.0 applications. We think that ZUIs with a flexible information presentation, semantic zooming and navigation by zooming, panning and searching, support a fast and usable access to the contents of complex information spaces.

Objective
This journal is devoted to human-computer interaction, media design, usability, engineering and systems evaluation, software ergonomics, cooperative systems, e-learning, mobile and ubiquitous systems, user-adaptive systems, agent development tools and methods for media in different application fields (including e-business, knowledge management, leisure and entertainment, transport, engineering, and medicine), barrier-free systems design, and the social aspects of information and communication technologies.

The journal seeks to build bridges between research and practice as well as between teaching and business, emphasizing interdisciplinary teamwork and application-oriented solutions.

The journal is the official organ of the special interest group on "Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)" in the German Association for Informatics (GI).

i-com is an open access journal since 2023. It publishes English-language articles only. The publication frequency is three times per year.
