Pure and Applied Chemistry (PAC) is the flagship journal of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). PAC advances chemistry worldwide by publishing:
All of this ensures that you can rely on PAC’s content to provide you with the best examples of practical open chemistry, as a part of IUPAC’s mission to provide the common language for chemistry and support the free exchange of scientific information.
From January 2024 onwards, PAC invites open submission of review articles and research articles. Technical reports and recommendations are by invitation only.
Audience: Students, researchers and industrial practitioners of all fields of pure and applied chemistry.

Forthcoming Special Issues
Activities and Actions Towards a Sustainable Future‘Sustainable action begins with a conversation‘, and the role that chemists play in the achievement of a sustainable future is vital. For us to tackle the current societal and environmental challenges and address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), urgent actions are needed worldwide. The Global Conversation on Sustainability (GCS) is a joint project by the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN) and IUPAC launched in 2022 which aims to address the UN SDGs by raising awareness and encouraging global conversations among diverse stakeholders, including university scientists, governmental and non-governmental organizations, business entities, and the whole scientific community on sustainability. In this special issue of Pure and Applied Chemistry we aim to publish diverse formats from GCS events. Feature, opinion, and perspective articles by the global chemistry community on the topic are also welcome. For further information on this special issue and how you can contribute please see the full overview here.
Guest editors - João Borges (Senior Researcher at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal; Task Group Chair of the IYCN/IUPAC Joint Project Global Conversation on Sustainability) and Juliana L. Vidal (Higher Education Program Manager at Beyond Benign; Task Group member of the IYCN/IUPAC Joint Project Global Conversation on Sustainability)
The deadline for article submissions is 30 April 2024. If you are interested in contributing, please e-mail an outline of your proposed article to firstname.lastname@example.org
