About this journal

The "Strafverteidiger" is regarded as one of the leading judicial journals for the theory and practice of criminal law.

This journal reports from the criminal defense’s point of view and also allows readers to gain a deeper insight into this profession. Similarly, it serves as an independent academic forum for the entire field of criminal law.

The main focus is on criminal law and criminal proceedings law as well as what is especially important in the application of secondary fields such as narcotics or juvenile criminal law. On a regular basis, this journal gives a focused overview of recent decisions handed down by the European Court of Human Rights, the Federal Constitutional Court, the Federal Supreme Court and the States’ Higher Regional Courts as well as remarkable and innovative decisions from courts of appeal. Particularly important or controversial decisions are also reviewed from the perspective of criminal defense. In the daily practice of the courts – and accordingly criminal defense – precedent often has a formative influence on standard interpretations; criminal procedural law and criminal procedures are not the same.

This journal contains fundamental articles on current issues in criminal defense, pressing questions on practical application and German and European legal policy. Beside reviews of relevant publications, the "Strafverteidiger" offers an overview of relevant articles in law enforcement publications as part of a press review.
