Housing cooperatives are successful since over 100 years, but rarely publicly acknowledged. This article overviews the situation of housing cooperatives in Germany. Benefits of the cooperative solution are presented generally as well as specificly for the market situation. Considering the present and conceivable demands, riks are analysed and possible solutions are discussed. Résumé Les coopératives immobilières - un modèle de réussite depuis plus de 100 ans, qui rencontre relativement peu d’intérêt dans le public. La contribution suivante donne un aperçu de la situation des coopératives immobilières en Allemagne. Seront présentés ici les avantages de la solution offerte par les coopératives d’un point de vue général et différencié selon la situation du marché. Face aux exigences actuelles et prévisibles, nous analyserons les risques et nous discuterons des possibilités de Solutions.

Abstract

Credit portfolios can be diversified broadly over all sectors or can be focused on particular sectors. Our study amends former analyses of this issue for German credit cooperatives using new data. There was a change in tendencies - from diversifying to focusing - and there were structural effects of the financial crisis. Résumé Les portefeuilles de crédit peuvent être diversifiés et étendus à toutes les branches ou se focaliser sur des branches en particulier. L’étude suivante complète des analyses précédentes de la situation concernant les coopératives de crédit allemandes au moyen de nouvelles données. On a constaté un passage des tendances de diversification à des ten-dances de focalisation et des effets de structures dûs à la crise.

Against this background, the following article analyses factors of success and limitations which cause this development. Cependant il faut noter que dans un passé récent le nombre de nouvelles créations stagne et même diminue. Abstract

The 179 German cooperative wine-growers associations have a long tradition and play an important role on the world market. About one third of Germany‘s wine yield comes from wine-growers‘ cooperatives, which are very heterogenous regarding structural characteristics. In addition to competition with local, national and European wine-growers, they have to face increasing competition with international producers from Australia, South Africa as well as North and South America. The paper illustrates the present competitive situation referring to the cooperative Bergsträsser Winzer eG (BWeg). Résumé Les 179 coopératives viticoles allemandes ont une longue tradition et jouissent d’une grande importance sur le marché mondial. Un tiers de la production allemande de vin est fournie par ces coopératives viticoles qui, de part leurs structures et leurs grandeurs, sont très hétérogènes. En plus de la concurrence au niveau local, national et européen, ces entreprises se trouvent de plus en plus en compétition avec les fournisseurs internationaux venus d’Australie, d’Afrique du sud ainsi que d’Amérique du nord et du sud. La contribution suivante explique la situation concurrentielle actuelle, en prenant l’exemple des viticulteurs de la coopérative enregistrée (eG) «Bergsträsser».

Sozialgenossenschaften in Deutschland: Eine diskursgeleitete phänomenologische Annäherung

Abstract

The following paper shows how German social cooperatives currently are being characterized in terms of economic dedication and field of activity, how this phenomenon relates to the social economy and social entrepreneurship, and it explores how the incorporated social cooperative is distinguished from other types of incorporated coops for the purpose of national cooperative statistics. Furthermore, the welfare potential of social cooperatives is discussed, based on recent developments in social policies and welfare related politics. Résumé La contribution suivante montre comment les coopératives sociales, en Allemagne, sont actuellement caractérisées selon leur modèle économique, leur objectif et leurs champs d’activité. Elle montre également quels sont les liens avec les discours portant sur l’économie sociale et l’entrepreneuriat social et aussi comment les coopératives sociales sont ordonnées statistiquement. Puis on procèdera à quelques réflexions sur les possibles potentialités de croissance pour l’avenir en se référant aux développements politiques actuels concernant le bien-être et le social.

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Rechts- und Wirtschaftsform bietet der berufsständischen Genossenschaft ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal am Markt der Softwarehersteller für Steuerberater, aber auch am internationalen Markt. Dazu tragen vor allem die genossenschaftlichen Prinzipien und Werte bei, die im Beitrag genauer vorgestellt werden. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die theoretischen Charakteristika von Genossenschaften in die unternehmerische Praxis bei DATEV zu übertragen und ihre Bedeutung für den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg aufzuzeigen.

Who is behind the ZfgG?

The ZfgG is the only internationally distributed German-language periodical to deal with the study of co-operatives. It was first published in 1950 by members of the Institute for Research into Co-operatives at the University of Erlangen. Today, a number of professors and research institutes in Germany, Switzerland and Austria are responsible for the publication.

What is the ZfgG?

The ZfgG is an academic discussion forum for the legal, sociological and economical aspects of co-operatives. Work is judged to be academic not by virtue of its origin within a university, but by its style and quality. Close contacts with the real world of co-operatives is vital.
