Abstract

The effect of magnetic-field-dependent (MFD) viscosity on the thermal convection in a ferromagnetic fluid in the presence of a uniform vertical magnetic field is investigated for a fluid layer saturating a densely packed porous medium using the Darcy model. A correction is applied to the model by Sunil et al. [Z. Naturforsch. 59 , 397 (2004)], which is very important to predict the correct behaviour of MFD viscosity. A linear stability analysis is carried out for stationary modes. The critical wave number and critical Rayleigh number for the onset of instability, for the case of free boundaries, are determined numerically for sufficiently large values of the magnetic parameter M 1 . Numerical results are obtained and illustrated graphically. It is shown that MFD viscosity has stabilizing effect on the system, whereas medium permeability has a destabilizing effect.

Abstract

We establish an analytical relation between the Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (Bell-CHSH) inequality and weak measurement strengths under noisy conditions. We show that the analytical results obtained in this article are of utmost importance for proposing a new class of two-qubit mixed states for quantum information processing. Our analysis further shows that the states proposed here are better resources for quantum information in comparison to other two-qubit mixed entangled states.

Abstract

In this paper, the integrability of the (2+1)-dimensional cylindrical modified Korteweg-de Vries equation and the (3+1)-dimensional cylindrical Korteweg-de Vries equation with variable coefficients arising in dusty plasmas in its generalised form was studied by two different techniques: the Painlevé test and the consistent Riccati expansion solvability. The integrability conditions and Bäcklund transformations are constructed. By using Bäcklund transformations and the solutions of the Riccati equation many new exact solutions are found for the two equations in this study. Finally, the application of the obtained solutions in dusty plasmas is investigated.

Abstract

The nonlinear properties of dust ion-acoustic (DIA) shock waves in a magnetorotating plasma consisting of inertial ions, nonextensive electrons and positrons, and immobile negatively charged dust are examined. The effects of dust charge fluctuations are not included in the present investigation, but the ion kinematic viscosity (collisions) is a source of dissipation, leading to the formation of stable shock structures. The Zakharov–Kuznetsov–Burgers (ZKB) equation is derived using the reductive perturbation technique, and from its solution the effects of different physical parameters, i.e. nonextensivity of electrons and positrons, kinematic viscosity, rotational frequency, and positron and dust concentrations, on the characteristics of shock waves are examined. It is observed that physical parameters play a very crucial role in the formation of DIA shocks. This study could be useful in understanding the electrostatic excitations in dusty plasmas in space (e.g. interstellar medium).

Abstract

Analytical solutions of both the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) and NLSE with a perturbation term have been attained. Besides, analytical solutions of nonlocal NLSE have also been obtained. In this paper, the nonlocal NLSE with a perturbation term is discussed. By virtue of the dependent variable substitution, trilinear forms of this equation is attained. Lax pairs and Darboux transformation of this equation are obtained. Via the Darboux transformation, two kinds solutions of this equation with the different seed solutions are attained.

Abstract

This paper investigates heat and mass transfer of nanofluid over a stretching sheet with variable thickness. The techniques of similarity transformation and homotopy analysis method are used to find solutions. Velocity, temperature, and concentration fields are examined with the variations of governing parameters. Local Nusselt number and Sherwood number are compared for different values of variable thickness parameter. The results show that there exists a critical value of thickness parameter β c ( β c ≈0.7) where the Sherwood number achieves its maximum at the critical value β c . For β > β c , the distribution of nanoparticle volume fraction decreases near the surface but exhibits an opposite trend far from the surface.

Abstract

Discovering unknown aspects of non-equilibrium systems with hidden strange attractors is an attractive research topic. A novel quadratic hyperjerk system is introduced in this paper. It is noteworthy that this non-equilibrium system can generate hidden chaotic attractors. The essential properties of such systems are investigated by means of equilibrium points, phase portrait, bifurcation diagram, and Lyapunov exponents. In addition, a fractional-order differential equation of this new system is presented. Moreover, an electronic circuit is also designed and implemented to verify the feasibility of the theoretical model.

Abstract

In the work reported here, we have considered the interaction between modified holographic Ricci dark energy, a particular choice of Nojiri–Odintsov cut-offs, and pressureless dark matter for three different choices of scale factor, namely logamediate, intermediate, and emergent. Two different interaction terms have been considered. In one case, the interaction has been taken proportional to the dark energy density; in the other case, it has been taken proportional to the matter density. In the case of Q =3 Hδρ x , we have observed that there is a crossing of phantom boundary and the equation of state parameter has been observed to behave like quintessence. The influence of various parameters in the scale factors has also been observed. Also, an exit from phantom phase has been observed for the choice of scale factor in the emergent form. Considering the interaction term Q to be proportional to the matter density for logamediate scale factor, w x has been found to behave like quintessence, i.e. >−1. For the emergent scale factor in this interaction scenario, the model has been found to lead to a w x parameter lying in the region ≤−1. Therefore, in general, it has been found that Q =3 Hδρ x is more suitable than Q =3 Hδρ m in creating a model having a w x parameter crossing the phantom boundary.

Abstract

The electrical conductivities of molten KCl-ZrCl 4 and CsCl-ZrCl 4 mixtures, including their heterogeneous (melt+crystals) ranges, were measured for the first time. The concentration ranges were 65–72 and 66–75 mol.% of ZrCl 4 , and the temperature ranges were 482–711 and 548–735 K, respectively. The measurements were carried out in cells of an original design.

Abstract

The steady non-isothermal flow of an Eyring–Powell fluid in a pipe is investigated using both perturbation and numerical methods. The results are presented for two viscosity models, namely the Reynolds model and the Vogel model. The shooting method is employed to compute the numerical solution. Criteria for validity of perturbation solution are developed. When these criteria are met, it is shown that the perturbation solution is in good agreement with the numerical solution. The influence of various emerging parameters on the velocity and temperature field is also shown.
