Abstract

A harmonic-vibration analysis for the vibrations of 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene was performed. A suitable set of symmetry coordinates is specified, and the corresponding symmetry force constants for C 8 H 8 are given. The developed force fields were used to calculate mean amplitudes of vibration for C 8 H 8 and C 8 D 8 . Calculated perpendicular amplitude correction coefficients for the various interatomic distances are also reported.

Abstract

Infrared absorption spectra of some four- and five-coordinated (ethyl 1-methyl acetoacetate) complexes of trivalent samarium have been studied in the region 4000 - 250 cm -1 for the first time. About twenty bands in each chelate have been observed and assigned to different modes of vibration. A study of relative frequency shifts of CO stretching vibrations reveals that the metal-oxygen bonds in all the complexes are nearly of the same strength. The vibrational frequencies, with few exceptions, are found to be nearly independent of the coordination number of the metal.

Abstract

Infrared absorption spectra of four (ethylbenzoyl acetate) [EBA] complexes of trivalent samarium of the general formula X p Sm(EBA) q [X = isopropoxy or t-butoxy group; when p=1, q=2 and vice versa] have been studied in the region 4000-250 cm -1 for the first time. About twenty five bands in each complex have been observed and assigned to different modes of vibration. The separation between asymmetric and symmetric CO stretching vibrations indicates that the bonding in all the complexes is nearly the same. The spectra show that the interaction between the two ligand rings is small in five coordinated metal complexes.

Für die aus den Intensitätswerten abgeschätzten Bindungsdipolmomente der PO-Bindung gilt das gleiche. Dies wird bindungstheoretisch interpretiert.

Abstract

The formation of two different types of radicals in phosphonic acid esters (0-dimethyl-[1-hydroxy-2,2,2-trichloroethyl] -phosphonate, trichlorphon; O,O-dimethyl- [1-hydroxy-l-methylethyl] -phosphonate) folowing reaction with OH radicals is shown by ESR Hfs. Coupling constants for H, P and Cl and g-values are given and discussed. The results in liquid phase (oxidation by OH) are compared with results on radiation-induced radicals in solid trichlorphon.

Abstract

In Thionylverbindungen X-SO-Y hängt die Lage der (SO)-Valenzschwingung von inter- und intramolekularen Einflüssen ab. Anhand von Literaturdaten und eigenen Ergebnissen wird eine zusammenfassende Darstellung gegeben. Den größten Einfluß auf ν(SO) hat der induktive Effekt der Substituenten X und Y. Für ν(SO) wird unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen eine lineare Abhängigkeit von der Elektronegativität von X und Y beobachtet. Damit kann die (SO)-Valenzschwingung für noch unbekannte Verbindungen vorhergesagt werden.

Abstract

Kozic acid complexes of copper (II), cobalt (II), and nickel (II) are described. Kozic acid behaves as a bidentate ligand coordinating through oxygens. A tetrahedral structure is assigned to the complexes on the basis of magnetic and electronic spectral data. Approximate values of ligand field and electronic parameters are given for [Co (kozate) 2 ] compound. Infra-red spectra of the complexes are discussed in the carbonyl and MO stretching region.

Abstract

The approximate force fields for a group of nitrogen halogen compounds like ONF 3 , NF 3 , NF 2 Cl, NFCl 2 , NF 2 D and NCl 3 were studied using the kinematic methods of Herranz and Torkington. It was found that the application of Torkington's method yields a reliable set of potential energy constants consistent with other molecular constants. A linear relationship between the N -F bond stretching force constants and the bond order was found to exist. It was also found that the value of the N-F bond stretching force constant is proportional to the number of fluorine atoms substituted.

Abstract

The strongly concentration dependent 1 H, 14 N and 31 P n.m.r. shifts of some paramagnetic ionic compounds of the general formula [ (C 4 H 9 ) 4 Y] {M [P (C 6 H 5 ) 3 ]X 3 } with Y=N and P, M = Co (II)and Ni (II) are reported and discussed in relation to the recently postulated “ion pairs” in solution. The results indicate a strong direct interaction between the paramagnetic anions and the diamagnetic cations in ion associates.

Abstract

ω- (N-aryl-chloracetamido) -acetophenones have been cyclized with triethylamine in warm benzene solution to the corresponding 1,4-oxazines. The reaction appears to be general for any N-aryl substituent, as long as an overall electron-withdrawing substituent is present para- or meta, in the aromatic nucleus of the acetophenone moiety. The predominant tautomeric form present is shown by IR spectrography to be the “keto” tautomer in every case. The structure of one morpholine is confirmed by mass spectral fragmentation analysis.

Abstract

Kinetics of the oxidation of hydrazine by ferricyanide was investigated in water-methanol mixtures using several buffer solutions. The reaction showed first order dependence in both hydrazine and ferricyanide. The order with respect to hydroxide ion concentration was zero. Increase in concentration of methanol had a retarding influence on the rate while the addition of neutral salts showed a specific ion effect. The energy and entropy of activation were calculated as 12.3 kcals. mole -1 and -20.8 cals. deg -1 mole -1 respectively. A suitable mechanism has been proposed which suggests the primary rate determining reaction between N 2 H 4 and Fe (CN) 6 3⊖ . Nitrogen was found to be the product of the reaction.

Using a strain of Claviceps purpurea which produces under submerged conditions chanoclavine, ergometrine and mainly ergotoxine the biosynthesis of ergoline derivatives has been studied. DL-Tryptophan- (ring-2- 14 C) is specifically incorporated into the lysergic acid moiety of ergotoxine· alkaloids. L-Proline-U- 14 C serves as a precursor of the proline-part of the peptid-chain of ergotoxine.

The infrared spectra of isatin-3-thiosemicarbazone and its 1-methyl derivative “Marboran” are discussed. By means of i.r. and 1 H-n.m.r. spectra their molecular conformations in solid and dissolved state are established. Complexes of Cu (II), Cu (I), Ni (II) and Zn (II) as well as of Fe (II), and Co (II) were prepared. Their structures follow from spectra and magnetic measurements.

Abstract

Humanserum reduziert die elektrophoretische Beweglichkeit von L- und Yoshida-Hepatom- Asciteszellen. Eine Ig-G-Globulin-Fraktion A 1 F 1 aus dem Serum wirkt nur bei niedriger Ionenstarke (μ = 0,03), jedoch nicht bei einer dem Serum entsprechenden Ionenstärke. Die Untersuchung dieses Problems führte zu folgenden Befunden: 1.Im Humanserum kommen komplementabhängige cytotoxische Antikörper gegen L-Zellen und Yoshida-Hepatom-Asciteszellen (YA-Zellen) vor. Während 30 von 51 untersuchten Humanseren jeweils über 90% der YA-Zellen lysierten, wirkten alle 46 untersuditen Seren auf jeweils iiber 90% der L-Zellen cytotoxisch. Eine Korrelation zwischen den Blutgruppen ABO oder Rh und der cyto- toxischen Aktivitat des Humanserums gegeniiber YA-Zellen besteht nicht. Alle 6 untersuchten Kaninchenseren lysierten jeweils über 90% der YA-Zellen, jedoch nur weniger als 20% der L-Zellen. Die cytotoxische Wirkung des Kaninchenserums gegenüber YA-Zellen ist ebenfalls auf ein Anti- korper-Komplement-System zurückzuführen. 2.Der schon von FEDOROFF et al. 9 beschriebene Antikörper gegen L-Zellen kann von YA-Zellen bei 0° nicht adsorbiert werden. 3.Meerschweinchenkomplement kann weder Humankomplement bei L-Zellen noch Human- oder Kaninchenkomplement bei YA-Zellen ersetzen. Human- und Kaninchenkomplement dagegen sind bei beiden Zellarten austauschbar. 4.Bei L- und YA-Zellen sind nur cytotoxisch aktive Seren elektrokinetisch wirksam. Der verlangsamende Effekt auf die elektrophoretischen Beweglichkeit wird in der Hauptsache durch Anlagerung bestimmter Ig-G-Globuline, die in unserer Ig-G-Fraktion A 1 F 1 enthalten sind, nach der Schädigung der Zellen durch das Antikorper-Komplement-System hervorgerufen, welches allein elektrokinetisch kaum wirksam ist. 5.Zellen, die durch Hitzebehandlung oder infolge der Präparation ihre Vitalität eingebüßt haben, werden auch durch cytotoxisch schwach wirksames oder inaktiviertes Serum in ihrer elektrophoretischen Beweglichkeit verlangsamt. Menschliche Leukozyten und Leberparenchymzellen werden ebenfalls nach einem nicht-antikörper-bedingten Vitalitätsverlust auch durch autologes Serum elektrokinetisch verändert. 6.In Adsorptionsversuchen mit Humanserum und L-Zellen, YA-Zellen, autologen Leukozyten sowie Leberparenchymzellen der Ratte läßt sich jeweils die zellelektrophoretisch erfaßbare Aktivität des Serum auf eine Zellart durch die andere Zellart vermindern. Das gleiche Ergebnis liefern analoge Versuche mit der Ig-G-Fraktion A 1 F 1 und hitzegetöteten YA- und L-Zellen. Demnach zeigen die von nicht-vitalen Zellen adsorbierten elektrokinetisch wirksamen Ig-G-Globuline des Humanserums keine Zellspezifität. 7.Die Ig-G-Fraktion A 1 F 1 allein vermindert die elektrophoretisdie Beweglichkeit von vitalen Zellen nur bei niedriger Ionenstärke (0,03), von nicht-vitalen Zellen jedoch auch bei hoher Ionenstarke (0,15).

Abstract

Sweat from the whole body was collected in five healthy unacclimatized male students during two consecutive periods of profuse sweating in a climatic chamber with a hot humid environment. In each subject one sweat collection experiment was performed before and another experiment about two weeks after an oral dose of 137 Cs (160 nCi). Before the intake of the 137 Cs oral dose the volunteers had a “natural” body burden in the same range as other Oslo-residents, whereas their mean body burden rose by a factor of approximately six, measured five days after the intake of the dose. The mean concentration of 137 Cs in whole body sweat after the intake of the oral dose was about 10 times higher than the initial values. After the oral dose of 137 Cs, the amount excreted through sweating was about 30 pCi 137 Cs per hour. Thus, the present data show that the elimination of 137 Cs through sweating might be considerable during prolonged periods of profuse perspiration. Consequently, this excretory pathway should not be neglected under conditions where heat, humidity and physical exertion pertain. There was no decrease in the concentration of 137 Cs in whole body sweat from the first to the second period of sweat collection. Thus, the results give no support to the hypothesis of an “internal” contamination of the sweat of the initial stages of secretion.

Abstract

Der Einfluß unterschiedlicher Lösungsmittel (synthetische Fettsäureester, fette Öle, Paraffinöl, Aceton und DMSO) auf die Penetration von 35 S-4-Chlorbenzyl-isothiocyanat an Rinderhaut wurde in Modellversuchen in vitro geprüft. Autoradiographien von Gefrierschnitten der Haut sowie die resorbierte 35 S-Aktivität zeigten übereinstimmend, daß die Hauptmenge des Wirkstoffes in den oberen Hautschichten verbleibt und nur maximal 0,9% resorbiert werden. Der Lösungsmitteleinfluß ist sehr gering; Paraffinöl und DMSO zeigen die größten Eindringtiefen.

Abstract

35 S-4-Chlorbenzyl-isothiocyanat wurde in einer Gesamtmenge von 200 ml 1-proz. Lösung in unterschiedlichen Lösungsmitteln an lactierende Rinder cutan appliziert. In Blut und Milch ist keine CHCl 3 -extrahierbare 35 S-Aktivität nachweisbar (Nachweisgrenze 0,01 ppm). Im Harn sind nach 30h maximal (19 ± 4) ppm extrahierbare 35 S-Aktivität vorhanden, die kein Isothiocyanat enthält. Mit toxikologisch bedeutsamen Rückständen ist nach cutaner Applikation daher nicht zu rechnen.

Zeitschrift fuer Naturforschung B (ZNB) publishes novel research in all areas of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry. In particular, the journal focuses on solid state chemistry, coordination chemistry, main group element chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, natural product chemistry and, to a lesser extent, on analytical chemistry. For more than 65 years Zeitschrift fuer Naturforschung B has been open to contributions from all fields of experimental and theoretical chemistry. Zeitschrift fuer Naturforschung B publishes 12 issues per volume/year. Sometimes double issues occur.
