Abstract

A classification and characterization of the solid isopolytungstates obtainable from acidified aqueous solutions is given and the relation of the solid isopolytungstates to the isopolytungstate ions in the corresponding solutions is studied. As distinguished from the molybdate system all the polytungstate ions forming a solid exist in solution as well. The reasons for the non-occurrence of insoluble solids of species absent from solution are discussed. For setting up a reaction scheme on the polytungstates only very few of the large number of papers on this subject give evidentiary informations.

Abstract

Tetrakis-trimethylsilyl substituted sulfamide is obtained from N,N′-bis(trimethylsilyl)sulfamide (1) by reaction with butyl lithium and trimethyl bromosilane. Its structure is that of N,N,N′,O-tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)-sulfamide (3b). Tris(trimethylsilyl)-amidosulfonic acid (4 a) and N-alkyl-trimethylsilyl amidosulfonic acids can readily be obtained from silyl amines and trimethylester of chlorosulfonic acid (6).

Abstract

57 Fe and 119 Sn Mössbauer effect measurements were performed on a series of complexes of the type (CO) 4 FeL with L being organoelement(IV a)-phosphine, [(CH 3 ) 3 C] 3-n P[E(CH 3 ) 3 ] n (n = 0,1,2,2; E = Si, Sn), to gain some insight into the nature of the phosphorous-element(IV a) bond as well as the iron-nearest neighbour bond. The results of the Mössbauer measurements are in contradiction with the widely discussed presence of (p → d) π interaction in the phosphorous-element(IVa) bond. In accordance with NMR and vibrational spectroscopic studies they rather suggest that (p → d) π interaction be of little importance.

The new oxide LiAg 3 O 2 was prepared using oxygen pressures of about 300 at. The crystal structure, determined by single crystal X-ray investigations, consists of branched O—Ag—O—Ag chains; Li is coordinated by distorted, edge-sharing oxygen tetrahedra. The space group is Ibam; α = 5.974 Å, b = 9.945 Å, c = 5,694 Å.

Abstract

Electroreduction of Ni(II) and Co(II) has been carried out in aqueous mixtures of formamide, acetamide and urea. Electrode kinetics in terms of theories of irreversible waves have been studied. After calculating the rate constants by DELAHAY 1 and Kou-TECKY 2 treatments separately their variation with electrode potential has been used to calculate the product ‘an a ’. The rate constants and ‘an a ’ calculated from two different approaches show remarkable agreement. `an a ’ records a gradual decrease with increasing amide content of the aqueous mixture.

Abstract

Photoelectron (PE) spectra of ethylene and vinylene carbonates and thiocarbonates as well as of methylene trithiocarbonate and some open-chain derivatives are reported. The low energy bands, well separated in the unsaturated compounds, are assigned to lone pair and π type ionizations. The assignment is based on comparison of PE spectra, modified CNDO calculations, and sulfur Κ β emission spectra. The pronounced substituent effects due to which the first ionization potential varies from 8.4 eV to 11.1 eV are discussed.

Abstract

Monomeric and trimeric arsinoboranes have been obtained by three different methods. Bis(amino)arsinoboranes are monomeric, (C 6 H 5 ) 2 BAs(CH 3 ) 2 is partially associated and decomposes readily, while (CH 3 ) 2 BAs(CH 3 ) 2 proved to be trimeric as well as (CH 3 ) 2 AsBBrCH 3 . Trimeric and tetrameric (CH 3 ) 2 AsBH 2 were isolated as the products of thermolysis of (CH 3 ) 4 As 2 · BH 3 . IR, MS and NMR data of the compounds are discussed.

Abstract

From EPR measurements on HgCu(NCS)4 crystals (space group D 14 2h -Pbcn) a coupling of four differently orientated tetragonally elongated CuN 4 S 2 octahedra with very long axial distances can be deduced. Two at a time of these polyhedra with differently orientated Cu-N axes are ferrodistortively ordered in layers 11(001). The Cu 2+ ions of adjacent ferrodistortive layers are coupled in a disturbed type of antiferrodistortive order. The angle 2 γ = 113° between the CuN 4 planes of the ferrodistortive layers, resulting from the spectroscopic data, is in approximative agreement with 2 γ = 119° found by X-ray structure determination. A strong exchange narrowing of the EPR line is observed in the (010) plane in an angle of β = ± 22° against the α-axis. From this exchange direction corresponding to the projection of one of the Cu-N axes on the (010) plane, conclusions can be drawn concerning the orientation of the magnetic dipoles connected with the spin moments of the coupled Cu 2+ ions.

Abstract

New modifications of the rare-earth sesquisulfides Ln 2 S 3 (Ln = Lu-Ho, Y) were found after high pressure, high temperature treatment and quenching to ambient conditions. The crystal structure of the prototype Tm 2 S 3 -III was determined from singlecrystal data. Tm 2 S 3 -III and the other members of the isotypic series Ln 2 S 3 -III are isostructural with U 2 S 3 . Some relations between the U 2 S 3 structure and other structures with trigonal prismatic anion configurations are discussed.

Abstract

Three new modifications of GdYbS 3 can be retained metastably, after quenching from high pressure and temperature. The Guinier powder data is presented and indexed. The three modifications include a cubic defect Th 3 P 4- type phase with a = 8.310(2) Å, an orthorhombic A-type phase with a = 7.279(4) Å, b = 15.119(6) Å and c = 3.875(3) Å, and an orthorhombic U 2 S 3 -type phase with a = 10.603(5) Å, b = 3.869(3) Å and c = 10.385(5) Å. Structural relationships between the present group of structures and the structures of the rare earth sulfides with formula Ln 2 S 3 are discussed.

Several routes for the synthesis of N-pentamethyldisilanylphosphine imines have been investigated. The title compounds may be prepared by methylation of N-(2-chlorodisilanyl)-phosphine imines, from tertiary phosphines and pentamethyldisilanyl azide, from triorganophosphine imines and pentamethyldisilanyl chloride, or, by transsilylation, from the corresponding N-trimethylsilylphosphine imines. 22 new compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weights, IR and NMR spectra.

Octacarbonyldicobalt reacts with the tritertiary phosphine 1,1,1-tris(diphenylphosphinomethyl)ethane (TDPME) to give the ionic complex [Co(CO) 2 TDPME][Co(CO) 4 ]. Treatment of [Co(CO) 2 TDPME][Co(CO) 4 ] with Na[B(C 6 H 5 )4], HClO 4 and CH 3 J yields the cobalt(I)-salts [Co(CO) 2 TDPME]X [X == B(C 6 H 5 )4, ClO 4 , J]. With CH 3 J, [Co(CO) 2 TDPME]J can also be converted to Co(CO) 2 (J)(R 2 PCH 2 ) 2 C(CH 3 )[CH 2 PR 2 CH 3 + ]J-in which TDPME is acting as a bidentate ligand. [Co(CO) 2 TDPME]ClO 4 forms with KCN the non ionic compound Co(CN)(CO)(TPDME). The IR spectra of all compounds between 2100 and 400 cm -1 are reported. Based on Raman polarization data a tetragonal pyramid has been proposed for the five-coordinated cobalt(I) in the cation [Co(CO) 2 TDPME] + .

Reaction of alkyl thione- (1) and dithiomalonates (2) as well as ethyl phenyldithioacetate (3) with acylchlorides, alkoxycarbonylchlorides, and alkylthiothiocarbonylchlorides yields vinyl thiolcarboxylates (4, 9), thiolcarbonates (5, 6, 10-12), and trithiocarbonates (7, 8, 13) by attack of the reagent at the thione sulphur atom of 1-3. 4-13 are obtained as mixtures of geometric isomers. An interpretation of the isomer ratio and the assignment of NMR lines and IR bands to particular isomers is attempted with regard to steric hindrance and electronic effects.

Abstract

The chalcones and dihydrochalcones of the flavanone glycosides naringin, neohesperidin and hesperidin were separated and identified by thin-layer chromatography; a similar procedure was utilized to perform preparative TLC for purification of these compounds. A new spectrophotometric method for the quantitative determination of dihydrochalcones in the concentration range from 0.005 to 0.100% in aqueous or alcoholic solution is described as well as a detection method of these compounds in agar media for microbiological studies.

Abstract

In previous communications 1-4 substituent effects in the 1-arylisobenzpyrylium salt series were investigated. 13 C NMR spectroscopy now made it possible to obtain quantitative data, which could be used for comparison of the electron distribution in 1-arylnaphthalene (1), 1-arylisobenzpyrylium salt (la), N-methylisoquinolinium salt (1b) and 1-arylisoquinoline (1c) derivatives. We hope that this set of data will be useful for the study of the differences in aromatic character in the various compounds and some insight into the interactions between the heterocyclic and the 1-aryl ring can also be obtained.

It is known, that the makroheteropolyanion [Sb 8 W 20 O 80 ] 16- protects mice against Friend Leukemia. The NPPh 3 substituent adopts a type I conformation with its nitrogen and phosphorus atoms coplanar with the ring. Abstract

The title compounds react with nucleophiles similar to activated carboxylic acid derivatives. There is no indication of acylisonitrile fragments on either thermolysis or mass spectrometry.

Abstract

Energies of the first charge-transfer bands of complexes of heterocyclic pyridinium-like cations with various electron donors (the iodide ion, benzenoid hydrocarbons) yield linear correlations with the HMO energies of the lowest unoccupied π-molecular orbitals (LUMO) of the heterocyclic acceptors. The experimental chargetransfer band maxima were taken from the literature. Charge-transfer band maxima for the complexes of the 2,4,6-trimethylpyrylium cation with several electrons donors (diethylamine, N,N-dimethylaniline, pyridine N–oxide, anthracene) have been determined and compared with the analogous data for the tropylium cation.

Abstract

Poncimarin[7-(2′,3′-epoxy-3′-methylbutyloxy)-8-(2″,3″-epoxy3″methylbutyl)coumarin], a coumarinic derivative isolated from unripe fruits of Poncirus trifoliata L., was synthetized by isoprenylation and diepoxidation of osthenol. Analitical and spectral properties of synthetic product superimposes with that of natural coumarin.
