The Zeitschrift für Pädagogik und Theologie (Journal of Pedagogy and Theology) is an academic journal that addresses two target groups: firstly, scholars in all areas of religious and education studies (religious education in schools, community pedagogy, adult education, etc.) and, secondly, all other actors in practical pedagogical fields in which both religion and the relationship between theology and pedagogy play a role. It thus helps not only to foster religious and pedagogical discourse in interdisciplinary, international, ecumenical, and transnational constellations, but also to forge close links between academic theory and pedagogical practice. This is also the goal of additional online offerings on specific topics that can be accessed on the website of the publishing house.
The Zeitschrift für Pädagogik und Theologie thus views itself as a forum for historical, empirical, systematic, and practical articles from the fields of religious and education research, including comparative national, religious, and confessional studies. This means that it is neither a publication for any specific pedagogical or theological school, nor for any particular church organization.
Topics/emphases• Religious and education studies (religious education in schools, community pedagogy, adult education, etc.)• Providing introductions to current research contexts, and recent developments and publications in the field of pedagogy• Initiating debates on current topics and providing new impetuses for the practice of religious education in schools and communities
The Zeitschrift für Pädagogik und Theologie can look back on a long history with its predecessor organs. In 1949 it appeared for the first time with the title Der Evangelische Erzieher (The Protestant Educator), and in 1998 it received its current name, which it previously had as a subtitle. Other predecessor organs include the Zeitschrift für den evangelischen Religionsunterricht, founded in 1889, and the Monatsblättern für den evangelischen Religionsunterricht, first published in 1908, which merged with Diesterweg-Verlag in 1932. Since its 68th year, the Zeitschrift für Pädagogik und Theologie has been published by De Gruyter in a print and online edition.
