DESCRIPTION

Many mathematical and real life optimization problems are NP-Hard or they just cannot be efficiently solved by traditional optimization methods due to differentiability, continuity or dimensional issues. In those cases, metaheuristics methods are the best option to obtain optimal or high-quality solutions in reasonable computation times.

This topical issue on Metaheuristics: Methods and Applications covers all areas and sub-areas of metaheuristics for optimization, including theoretical aspects, development and implementation of methods, and applications to mathematical or real-life problems.

Specific topics include but are not limited to:

  • Evolutionary and swarm intelligence algorithms
  • Trajectory and neighborhood search algorithms
  • Hybrid metaheuristics
  • Hybrid methods (exact + metaheuristics)
  • Combinatorial/binary optimization
  • Dynamic optimization problems
  • Multiobjective optimization
  • Parallel and cooperative metaheuristics
  • Constraint handling techniques
  • Reviews of theory and/or practice of metaheuristics
  • Case studies and real-world applications
  • Applications to machine learning and statistics
  • Rigorous methods for comparing metaheuristics
  • Adaptive Memory Programming (Tabu Search)

We seek high-quality original research papers, as well as communications and survey papers related to the topic of this issue.
