Abstract

Organic/inorganic hybrid was successfully prepared by sol-gel technique, which consisted of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) as organic segment and titanium dioxide (TiO2) as inorganic part. The PVAc/ TiO2 hybrid nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning. The structures and properties of the hybrid nanofibers were investigated by transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and tensile testing. SEM observation revealed the fibrous structures of the hybrid nanofibers. AFM and TEM images indicated the surface morphology and inner structures of the hybrid nanofibers. It was found by TGA analysis that the thermal stability of pure PVAc nanofibers was enhanced by the increase of TiO2 phase. The breaking strength was increased while the breaking elongation was decreased as the TiO2 content increased.

Abstract

A novel technique to introduce an additional low frequency band to compact ultra wideband (UWB) slot antennas is proposed in this paper. To get an additional Bluetooth band, a parasitic strip is mounted on the back side of the slot edge. Because of the interaction of the strip and the slot edge, the Bluetooth band can be obtained while a notch band between the Bluetooth band and UWB band also appears. Two types of feeding, coplanar waveguide and microstrip line, are investigated. The proposed antennas are both fabricated on a low-cost FR4 substrate and have compact size (24 mm × 28 mm × 1 mm). The good agreement between measured and simulated results verifies our design.

Abstract

Two coordination polymers, {[Co(bipmo)(tbip)]·3H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(bipmo)(tbip)]·3H2O}n (2) (bipmo=bis(4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)methanone, H2tbip=5-tert-butylisophthalic acid), were synthesized by solvothermal methods and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data indicate that the solid state structures of 1 and 2 consist of metal-aromatic carboxylate layers, which are pillared by weak interactions to generate a three-dimensional network. The topological structures of 1 and 2 are uninodal nets based on 3-connected nodes with the Schläfli symbol of {63}.

Abstract

The titanium-based metal organic framework (MIL-125) was synthesized for removal of arsenic from water for the first time. The samples were characterized by XRD and N2 adsorption-desorption measurements. The results show that the adsorption capacity of MIL-125 can reach around 123.5mg·g-1 after the reaction time of 4h when the initial concentration of As(V) was 40mg·L-1 at pH values from 4 to 10, which is much higher than that of other metal organic frameworks (MOFs) materials reported so far. The adsorptive property of MIL-125 is hardly affected by temperature and it could be used in a wide pH range. These results indicate that MIL-125 is a promising adsorbent for efficient removal of arsenic from water.

Abstract

Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) orf4 has been shown to be expressed at very early stage of Bm-NPV infection cycle. In this study, using transient expression experiment, we demonstrated for the first time that orf4 promoter is an immediate early promoter, indicating that orf4 may play a role in the immediate-early stage of BmNPV infection. Moreover, with the recently developed Bac-to-Bac/BmNPV baculovirus expression system and a modified pFast-Bac1 whose polyhedrin promoter was replaced with orf4 promoter, a recombinant bacmid baculovirus expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) under the control of orf4 promoter in Bombyx mori (Bm) cells was successfully constructed. The result not only showed that the polyhedrin promoter can be replaced easily with other promoters to direct the expression of foreign genes by using this novel system but also laid the foundation for the rescue experiment of orf4 deletion mutant.
