The third fascicle of the first part of volume 3 of Athanasius’ Works continues the publication of documents relating to the history of the Arian conflict, carrying on the work started by Hans-Georg Opitz in 1934 and 1935.
The fascicle contains inter alia the texts from the Synods of Antioch 326/27, Jerusalem 335, Rome and Antioch 338-341 and the Ekthesis makrostichos; it is accompanied by a detailed introduction on the chronology of the beginnings of the Arian heresy, a German translation of the documents already published, and a bibliography and reference index.

The fourth instalment of the first part of Volume III of Athanasius’ Works continues the publication of documents on the Arian conflict started by Hans-Georg Opitz in 1934 and 1935. Following on from the third instalment, which ended with the Formula makrostichos, the fourth instalment now includes the four Sirmian formulae, the texts of the Synods of Rimini/ Seleukia/Constantinople 359/360 and the Synod of Alexandria 362 together with a German translation. A bibliography and index are appended to the fascicle.

This phase was characterized by the process of theological differentiation that led, on the one side, to the creation and formation of neo-Nicene, and on the other, to the foundation of a separate anti-homousian church. Part 5 concludes with the start of the reign of Emperor Theodosius and the edict conctos populos.
