Aufgabe der Reihe ist, Grenzfragen menschlichen Lebens zu behandeln. An den Grenzen menschlichen Lebens wird das Ineinandergreifen seiner unterschiedlichen – organischen, leiblichen und intersubjektiv geteilten, geistigen – Dimensionen zum Problem. In der Auseinandersetzung mit den Grenzen menschlichen Lebens verschränken sich anthropologische Fragen nach der Verfasstheit des Menschseins mit ethischen Fragen nach seiner gelingenden oder guten Ausübung. Grenzgänge widmet sich den unterschiedlichen anthropologischen und ethischen Fragen, mit denen die verschiedenen Grenzphänomene menschlichen Lebens konfrontieren. Da die anthropologischen und ethischen Fragen neben der Philosophie u.a. auch Gegenstand von der Theologie, der Psychiatrie und Psychologie, der Medizin, der Pflegewissenschaften und der Sozialarbeit sowie der Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften sind, soll die philosophische Auseinandersetzung in engem Austausch mit ebendiesen Disziplinen stattfinden.

In der Reihe erscheinen sowohl Monographien als auch Sammelbände in deutscher Sprache.
