The French talmudist, philosopher, astronomer, and biblical exegete, is also known as Sen Astruc de Noves or de Sen Negre. Though he was born in Noves, his student Samuel ben Judah of Marseilles places him in Salon between 1322 and 1336, when he was quite aged (Renan 1893: 202, 548). In 1316/17 he corresponded with Joseph ibn Kaspi concerning the latter’s Sefer ha-Sod (Book of the Secret).
