Robert Henry Lightfoot (1883–1953) was born in Wellingborough to an Anglican vicar. He studied at Uppingham, Eton, and Worcester College, Oxford. In 1909 he became at curate at Haslemere. In 1912 he accepted an invitation to teach at the Theological College at Wells, and in 1919 he became a “Visitor’s Fellow” at Lincoln College, Oxford, where not long thereafter he became Dean of Divinity.
