In the HB/OT the idea of liberty is expressed by terms such as derôr (ἄφεσις), liberty, liberation; ḥopshî (ἐλεύθερος), free[dom]; shemitta (ἄφεσις), remission; yobel (ἄφεσις), release/restitution.
