Evolutive approaches to explorative design methods in architecture

Abstract

Current studies on the evolution of selected moss species reveal exciting new insights into the genetic mechanisms that lead to the creation of new species. One of these moss species, the spreading earthmoss, has been used in science as a model organism for many years, and its genetic information has been completely decrypted. This makes it and other members of its family ideal research objects for the transfer of these genetic mechanisms into algorithms-defined computational processes-and for their use in the developmental process of product design and architecture.
