Complex Dynamics in a Two-cell DC/DC Buck Converter using a Dynamic Feedback Controller

In this paper, we analyze the behavior of a two-cell DC/DC buck converter controlled using a dynamic feedback controller. This converter is described by a discrete modelwith some simplifying hypotheses. According to the values of the parameters, we can distinguish two different cases. The theoretical conditions of stability for each case are derived using the Jury criterion. Toggling between different modes in the converter leads to the appearance of an interior crisis, sliding bifurcations and chaotic behavior. The route to sliding can be obtained via switching and grazing scenarios in the transient regime. In addition, the presence of saturation in the control lawcauses a serious degradation of the converter performance and shows undesirable saturating regimes. The complex dynamics and the strange phenomena encountered in the two-cell converter are confirmed with numerical simulations.
