Power System State Estimation Using PMU Technology

This paper focuses mainly on a recent method aiming to provide an optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) for power system state estimation purposes. The proposed technique is generally based on synchrophasor technology which helps accurately and reliably in estimating the current status of the electrical network. In fact, establishing full system observability must consider the lack of the appropriate informations in all network nodes especially with the involvement of the existing renewable energy (RE) sources. Other investigations of FACTS systems are extended later to improve the performances and the stability of the smart grid. Experimentally, the application of efficient placement strategies will guarantee critical PMUs allocation in a 5-bus test system.
