Überlegungen zur quantitativen Kodikologie

Krause, Celia / Hegel, Philipp

As early as in the 1980s, quantitative methods were used systematically in the manuscript studies, in which, among other things, codicological and social- historical parameters were linked. Even in the case of codicological studies, which are not oriented quantitatively in a narrow sense, there are quantitative statements, such as remarks on the book layout or the historical development of complete stocks. This essay reconstructs the theoretical and methodological approaches in earlier works, and develops an own schematic workflow on the basis of these approaches. Subsequently, the concrete objects and possible methods of a quantitative codicology are sketched out. The article concludes with some reflections on the significance of comparative studies in the context of quantitative investigations.
