Translating Über Annahmen: Questions and Perspectives

From the book Psychological Themes in the School of Alexius Meinong

  • Cristina Travanini

Abstract

In this article, I intend to address some questions that have arisen while translating Alexius Meinong’s second edition of Über Annahmen from German into Italian, and some research perspectives that might be significant for current philosophical debates. I start with some remarks on the practice of translating a philosophical work before outlining the editorial history of Über Annahmen and offering an overview of Meinong’s account of assumptions. Finally, I consider some research perspectives that might benefit from a direct confrontation with Meinong’s work. In the background, I try to answer the question: why still engage with this book, and why invest time and energy into working on it?
