Abstract

This paper traces the Babylon episode in the Middle English Floris and Blancheflour (ca.1250) to the Daire le Roux episode in the Old French Roman de Thèbes (1155–60), which itself derives from western medieval chronicle accounts of the siege of Antioch during the First Crusade.
