Demokratie und Geschichte

Jahrbuch des Karl von Vogelsang-Institutes zur Erforschung der Geschichte der christlichen Demokratie in Österreich

    Aims and Scope

It is often easier to understand and interpret political processes within a historical context. Knowledge of historical correlations is an important precondition to deal with the political challenges of the present. The yearbook "Demokratie und Geschichte", which is published since 1997 and belongs to the Karl von Vogelsang-Institute, is committed to this basic idea. It focuses on historical and contemporary historical articles, analogous to the institute’s scientific approach. Multidisciplinarity, in the sense of scientific contact with other social sciences, is an important intention, as well as in the sense of a dialogue between research of contemporary history and politics. The main focus on interviews with contemporary witnesses also supports the intention to establish a junction between politics and science. The yearbook presents interviews with personalities who played a significant role in Austria’s politics after 1945 for the first time. The interviews were conducted by the Karl von Vogelsang-Institute. This important documentation, which especially deals with the ÖVP’s development, closes a gap in Austria’s contemporary history.
