Die Kleinstadt in Helle Helles Hus og hjem und Rødby-Puttgarden

  • Romana Stoubæk

The numerous texts which have the small town as motif and have appeared in the world literature in the last years are the proof for the rising interest for this topic. Such a tendency is also observable in Denmark where there is a tradition behind, too. Helle Helle's novels Hus og hjem (1999) and Rødby-Puttgarden (2005) are examples for the continuity of this topic and show the necessity of paying more attention to the small town. Especially the different forms of perception create a picture of the town, which the reader gets from the perspective of the figures in the novels. The town without name in the one, and Rødby in the other novel prove to be positively charged places. The figures decide in favour of these places, the big-city facilities are not being missed here.
