    NOTES FOR AUTHORS

Manuscripts should not exceed 22 pages (A4 size) of standard typescript (single column, 30 lines of text per page, 40,000 total characters including spaces) and should be written in English or in the Author’s mother tongue. A paper manuscript in two copies should come along with an electronic one in the Word format.

Author: The name of the author/authors should be accompanied by the name and address of the institution where the research was done and, in the case of the lead author, also by his/her correspondence address (fax and e-mail).

Title: The title should be short and concise, and words such as “study”, “work”, and “investigation” should be avoided.

Abstract: The abstract should be in English, have no more than 250 words, depict the paper’s structure and contain the most essential information on the method applied and the main research results. No abstract is required in the case of short communications, reports or reviews.

Key words: The paper should include key words or phrases counting in total no more than 10 words. The key words should not repeat the title of the paper.

Text: The main body of the article should follow the general rules of scientific writing and be adequately structured. The Introduction should define the scope of the work in relation to other relevant works done in the same field. Material and Methods content should allow the replication of observations / experiments. Location of research plots must be determined with their latitude and longitude and elevation above sea level. Results should be presented with clarity and precision, followed by Discussion containing interpretation of obtained results. Finally the Conclusions sum up the work done and point out the main achievements.
Plants or animals must be identified with taxonomic and common names. Abbreviations might be used if necessary, however the full description should follow their first use. The use of International System of Units (SI) is accepted only.

References: Literature citations in the text should contain the name of the author and the year of publication. In the case of more than two authors, only the first one should be named in the text, followed by the phrase “et al.”. At the end of the paper, under the “References” heading all items mentioned in the text should be placed according to the PN-ISO 690 standard in alphabetical order under the first author’s name, citing all authors. The names and titles written in Cyrillic alphabet should be given in transliteration according to the PN-ISO 9 standard. It is recommended to refer to the reviewed publications only. Journal titles should be given in full. Please make sure to include the ISBN and total page-length of the book

Tables, figures and illustrations: Tables should be prepared separately, out of the text. Figures, black-white as a rule should be camera ready, taking not too much space. Photographs are allowed provided that they contribute essential information to the text. They should be submitted as separate good quality JPG or TIF files. If a figure is to be minimized in size, its legend should be big enough to make it readable after minimizing.

Due to the necessity of putting paper title as well as table and figure captions or descriptions into English, extended table heads and sides must be avoided. Concerning figures – wordy information should be given in figure captions rather than in descriptions over the figure.

Proofreading: Author’s correction shall be sent to the address indicated as the lead author’s address.

Copyright: Along with the correction, the author shall send to the Publisher a declaration form by which he/she approves the submitted copy for press and confirms that the paper has not been published before. The authors are requested to attach to their scientific papers a declaration that the paper does not infringe other persons’ copyrights.
The authors of the articles on animal research should attach to their manuscripts a relevant certificate from the Local Ethical Committee.

Author’s copies: The author (together with the co-authors) receives for free 25 author’s copies of the article. The abstract will be available in electronic form immediately after the publication of a fascicle. The full version will be available within 6 months at www.lesne-prace-badawcze.pl.

We invite Authors, regardless of their affiliation, to submit their papers. We ensure linguistic assistance to foreign authors intending to publish their articles in Polish.
