The development of Ibero-American studies in the Czech Republic (1990-2000) has been influenced by political changes after 1989, when ideological and administrative powers lost their control and dictate over the development of sciences. This change has not resulted in the turning away from all previous research topics pursued by Czech scholars until 1989, although revolution topics have been received less attention. Czech university Ibero-American centres, whose number has grown in this decade, continue to focus on research in history and literature. Main topics in history cover migration to Latin-American countries, economic and cultural contacts between America and Central Europe (including the activities of Czech Jesuit missionaries in America), and the history of Cuba. International links with centres abroad, as well as the number of publications on Latin America by Czech scholars have multiplied.
