Bleaching in Paper Production versus Conservation

Abstract

Similarities and differences between paper conservation bleaching and the bleaching of pulp in papermaking are examined in this short review. The oldest conservation bleach, light bleaching, is considered for the common roots it shares with textile and paper bleaching.

Zusammenfassung

Die Bleichbehandlung von Papier in der Restaurierung zeigt in technischer Hinsicht sowohl Gemeinsamkeiten wie auch Unterschiede zur Bleiche von Faserstoff in der Papierherstellung. Diese Unterschiede werden in einer Übersicht dargestellt. Parallelen historischer Entwicklung werden am Beispiel der Lichtbleiche skizziert.

Résumé

Le traitement de blanchiment du papier pour sa restauration et le blanchiment de la pulpe de cellulose lors de la fabrication du papier partagent du point de vue technique certaines similarités mais diffèrent dans certains points importants qui seront examinés dans ce bref rapport. Les paramètres techniques des traitements seront comparés également à cause des parallèles existant dans leur évolution historique se concentrant sur le blanchiment par la lumière qui est le traitement de blanchiment le plus ancien et l'un des blanchiments modernes les plus importants dans la restauration du papier.
