Transitivity is a phenomenon often met in Russian dictionaries of association. The first response to two thirds of all transitive verbs is a direct object. In this paper, it will be argued that the category of transitivity is graded and that different shapes of semantic affinity between a transitive verb and a direct object can be related to the grade of transitivity. The paper aims at determining the high reversibility between a transitive verb and an object noun and thus at those parameters that have an impact on the mutual semantic affinity.

Keywords: transitivity; association research; confirmed collocations; semantic affinity; reversibility
