Das neunte Anathema: Der Heilige Geist in der Christologie Cyrills von Alexandrien

The ninth Anathema in Cyrill’s third letter to Nestorius is the only one of the twelve pieces that deals with the Holy Spirit. Considering the context of the Churchfather’s complete works, the letter not only allows to discover Cyrill’s original and distinct Pneumatology, but also grants a more accurate as well as more appreciative perspective on the treble fight of his eventful life: before 428, the fi ght against the remains of Arianism (Eunomius) and Apollinarianism; the fight against Nestorius in 428; and - what is forgotten too often - the fight for peace between Alexandria, Antioch and Rome in 431-433, resulting in the letter Εὐφραινέσθωσαν oἱ oὐρανοί, „Let enjoy the Heavens“. And so these findings might even contribute to a slightly happier perception of the ever fearsome bishop.
