Abstract
Since at Varna, Bulgaria, the Vllth World Congress of Sociology had taken place, developments have set in in the discipline the final direction of which is difficult to be diagnosed. Newly closed at Toronto, Canada, the VHIth World Congress seems to suggest that contemporary sociology passes an intermediate phase. The present report reflects on the relations, given between american or west- and easteuropean as well as the „Third World’s“ sociology, accentuates the role and implications of the new „critical” sociology now firmly represented in the ISA, and outlines opening dimensions of sociological research programs.
