Abstract
Subsequent to a survey of the available literature concerning the concept of centrality of attitudes a new definition has been developed. It is oriented toward a dynamic system-theoretical conception. When attitude is seen in its functional aspect as a means to structure cognitive and environmental complexity it is found to have considerable influence on the steering of the structuring process. Based on a stimulus threshold paradigm the differing influence of centrality on the change of attitude can be determined. The conclusion includes several references to the possibilities of the operational definitions of centrality as well as several empirical findings which can be assimilated into the scetched theoretical context.
Zusammenfassung
Nach einem Überblick über das Konzept der Zentralität von Einstellungen in der vorliegenden Literatur folgt eine begriffliche Neufassung, die sich an einer systemtheoretisch-dynamischen Konzeption von Einstellung orientiert. Wird Einstellung unter funktionalem Aspekt als ein Mittel zur Strukturierung von kognitiver und Umweltkomplexität betrachtet, wird Zentralität als wesentliche Steuerungsgröße dieses Strukturierungsprozesses verstehbar. Anhand eines Schwellenwertmodells läßt sich dann der differentielle Einfluß von Zentralität auf die Veränderung von Einstellungen spezifizieren. Den Abschluß bilden einige Verweise auf Möglichkeiten der Operationalisierung von Zentralität sowie auf einige empirische Befunde, die sich in den skizzierten theoretischen Kontext einordnen lassen.
