Proof that the pgg packing of ellipses has never the maximum density

Abstract

It is proved that the pgg-packing of ellipses never can have exactly the maximum density ϱ = [unk]. This maximum density is reached only, if all ellipses are parallel (=cmm-packing) or if they become circles (=closest packing of circles p6m).
