The photoelectron(PE) spectra of methylthio- (X = SCH3) and methoxyboranes (X = OCH3) (CH3)3-nBXn are compared and assigned by means of modified CNDO/2 calculations. Substituent effects on π-orbitals and chemical shifts (δ11B) confirm the existence of non-negligible π-contributions to the boron-sulphur bond.
