Abstract

The new compound K2SiP2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system , space group Ibam. The unit cell with the lattice constants

a = 1292.6(6) pm, b - 686.7(4) pm, c - 610.7(4) pm

contains 4 formula units. In the structure SiP4 tetrahedra form chains by sharing common edges. The [(SiP2)2-] strings are isosteric to the SiS2 molecules.
