Abstract
Resonance Hypothesis, Carcinogenesis, Polycyclic Hydrocarbons Three criteria for carcinogenic polycyclic hydrocarbons, which are to be satisfied, are discussed in regard to a resonance-hypothesis of carcinogenesis. According to this hypo thesis, the carcinogenic effect is caused by a Fermi-resonance between α-states and p-states which possibly leads to the breakage of pairing theorem by an asymmetric potential, in certain cases caused by vibronic coupling.
