    Aims and Scope

The first predecessor of the today existing ZRG was founded in 1815 by Friedrich Carl von Savigny und C. F. Eichhorn in the spirit of the historical school of law. It is only since 1861 that the annual volumes are more or less continuously published. A closer connection to the Savigny Foundation was made possible by the familiar division into Romance and German section. The journal ZRG is still named after the Savigny Foundation, although the foundation is not active anymore. In 1911, a canonistic section was added.

Nowadays, the ZRG is an integral part of the European research regarding history of law. The articles section with its generally unpublished contributions on newest source discoveries, new evaluations of already known findings and also its comparative analysis plays a decisive role in shaping the current state of the discipline. The literature section extensively informs about important new publications on the international media market. The headings "Chronik" (chronicle) and "Mitteilungen" (notifications) complement the offer.

The articles published in the ZRG are written in various Western European languages and with inserts in ancient languages. The indexes of the respective sections, which are published after 25 issues, facilitate the access to the topics with subject index, bibliography and register of persons. Likewise does the CD-ROM with tables of contents of the issues 100-125 of all three sections. This CD-Rom was developed by the publisher on the occasion of the publication of issue 125 (2008).
