This article discusses possible effects of the “Research Core Dataset” (RCD) on current library practices in Germany. It examines (possible) fields of activity for libraries with regard to the implementation of the RCD standard and the introduction of current research information systems (CRIS). The article highlights the challenges and the potential of the RCD for the daily practice of library work within the framework of modern and integrated research reporting. It also makes suggestions for future adaptation processes in scientific libraries. The article presents the structure and concept of the RCD with a focus on its provisions for the management of publication data. In addition, it presents insights from the Helpdesk – a support structure to facilitate the institutional implementation of the RCD standard. The article concludes by discussing exemplary activities and approaches for libraries in the context of the introduction of institutional CRIS.
