Piezoelectric properties of Tl3BX4 crystals (B = V,Nb,Ta; X = S,Se)

Abstract

The piezoelectric behaviour of Tl3BX4-crystals (B = V,Nb,Ta; X = S,Se) has been investigated. They show a very strong piezoelectric effect. The values of the piezoelectric modulus d123 at 163 K range from 76.7 × 10−12 m/V (Tl3VS4) to 55.6 × 10−12 m/V (Tl3TaSe4). Apart from substances with ferroelectric phases, the Tl3BX4-compounds exhibit the strongest piezoelectric effect known.
